Hoosiers lose Antonio Allen to ACL tear

Indiana freshman safety Antonio Allen suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear that will end his season, coach Kevin Wilson announced Tuesday.

Allen was one of several young players called into immediate action for the defense this season. The 5-foot-10 Ben Davis graduate was seventh on the team with 35 tackles and had seen time in all seven games for the Hoosiers (3-4, 1-2 Big Ten).

IU has a bye week to figure out how to replace Allen's role in the defense. Fellow safeties Greg Heban and Mark Murphy could get some help from freshman Chase Dutra, who was slated to redshirt this year and has stood out on the scout team in recent weeks.
