Saint Francis wins on road

Senior quarterback David Yoder threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns, freshman running back and Churubusco alum Jason Nicodeums ran for 128 yards and a score and No. 4 St. Francis defeated No. 20 St. Francis (Ill.) 37-28 on the road Saturday.

The Cougars (5-1, 2-0 Mid-States Football Association), facing their sixth consecutive ranked opponent, jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter.

The Cougars then proceeded to give up 14 unanswered points, capped by a 6-yard run from quarterback E.J. White with 2:10 left in the half.

But Yoder orchestrated a late drive and got St. Francis into the red zone. With 1:11 left, the Cougars went for it on fourth and goal from the 7-yard line, and Yoder hit Akeim Keslaw for a touchdown and a 21-14 halftime lead.

The Fighting Saints gave up 13 straight points to start the second half, and the Cougars held on after two late scores.
