Maine hermit could go free after court hearing

The Kennebec Journal ( http://bit.ly/17xCZ8V) reports that Christopher Knight is scheduled to be admitted to the Co-Occurring Disorders Court on Oct. 28 if he pleads guilty as expected to multiple burglary and theft charges. His attorney said Thursday that details are being finalized.
The program allows him to live in the community, work, and undergo counseling and treatment.
The 47-year-old Knight - known as the North Pond Hermit - was arrested after police say they caught him stealing food from a camp in Rome. Authorities say he is responsible for as many as 1,000 burglaries over the years.
