1 dead in skid-loader accident

A Warsaw man died Sunday after becoming trapped in machinery while operating a skid-loader at his home south of Winona Lake.

John Bud Elliott, 65, was found trapped between the hydraulic bucket arms and the body of a 610 Bobcat skid-loader, according to a release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.

Police responded to a 911 call about 6:48 p.m. Sunday.

Elliott’s wife told police she found her husband trapped in a skid-loader at their home in the 1600 block of East County Road 225 South.

Kosciusko County Deputy Coroner Tony Ciriello pronounced Elliott dead at the scene from blunt-force trauma to the chest.

Ciriello said it appears Elliott had been exiting the front of the skid-loader when his clothing became stuck on the hydraulic operating lever.

He then became pinned between the machinery, the release said.

The incident remains under investigation, but has been reported as a farming accident by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
