Homestead girls win soccer sectional title

– Homestead girls soccer earned a sectional championship at home against Huntington North with a 4-0 win Thursday.

The Spartans, who are the No. 16 team in Class 2A, outscored opponents 13-0 in two rounds of sectional play. The Vikings got to the championship game after a 2-0 win against Columbia City but could not put a shot on goal against Homestead.

Girls soccer

BELLMONT 3, WAYNE 0: Sophomore Bailey Beery had two goals as the Braves advanced past the Generals to the championship game in the Norwell Sectional.

SOUTH SIDE 1, NORWELL 0: Alicia Moreno’s game-winner came in the first half, and the Archers held on to set up an 11 a.m. championship game Saturday against Bellmont.

CONCORDIA 1, HERITAGE 0: Rachel Widenhofer put the game-winner in during the second half for the Cadets, who will face Bishop Luers at 1 p.m. Saturday for the sectional championship.

BISHOP LUERS 4, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 1: Annie Whitman’s hat trick kept her senior season alive as the Knights advanced over the Braves. Luers, the No. 3 team in Class A, will face No. 20 Concordia on the Knights’ home field in the title matchup.

Boys soccer

BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 7, MANCHESTER 0: Aaron Jones had a hat trick to lead the Braves past the Squires in the opening-round sectional game. Blackhawk Christian will play Concordia at 7 p.m. Saturday for the sectional championship.

CONCORDIA 9, WHITKO 0: Charles Fisher had four assists and a goal, and Joshua Hillery had a hat trick to lead a dominant Cadets performance in the sectional semifinal at Blackhawk Christian.

HERITAGE 3, SOUTH ADAMS 0: Senior Aaron Horne had a goal and both assists in the sectional win against the Starfires. The Patriots face Bishop Luers at 11 a.m. Saturday in the sectional title game.


ADAMS CENTRAL 3, HERITAGE 1: The Flying Jets, fresh off a three-set win against Leo, got the best of a long battle with the Patriots to win the ACAC Tournament. Adams Central took down Heritage 24-26, 25-13, 25-19. Abby Snyder had seven kills, 10 digs and a pair of aces in the championship game.

BELLMONT 3, COLUMBIA CITY 0: Holly Hankenson had 15 kills, 11 digs and two blocks as the Braves remained undefeated in the NHC.

FAIRFIELD 3, CHURUBUSCO 0: Fairfield’s Haley Brown had eight aces, seven kills and a block for the Falcons.
