Homeowner shoots, kills suspected burglar

Fort Wayne Police say a man who appeared to be burglarizing a home on the 300 block of Melita Street Sunday night, was shot by the armed homeowner.

Police were called out to a reported shooting around 11:55 p.m. When officers arrived, they found an adult male on the front porch. Medics determined that the man was deceased.

The homeowner, who was the only person in the residence at the time, was not injured and has not been charged.

Police believe the suspected burglar acted alone. An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death as well as the identity of the deceased will be conducted today.

The shooting is under investigation.
