The week ahead: Pond’s successor

Republican precinct committeemen in Indiana House District 85 will meet Tuesday to choose a replacement for Rep. Phyllis Pond, who died Sept. 22.

Six candidates are vying for the position. They are Mike Cameron, Casey Cox, Dave Heine, Ken Knoblauch, Ken Richardson and Denny Worman.

Worman challenged Pond in four primaries, and his father, Richard Worman, is a former legislator.

Cox, a Fort Wayne attorney and member of the city’s redevelopment commission, is likely the front-runner.

Knoblauch, however, is well known in the district as an educator and former board president for East Allen County Schools.

Pond’s death leaves Allen County with one female lawmaker, Rep. Kathy Heuer.
