Former union official indicted

The former secretary-treasurer of a local union was indicted on a single charge of embezzlement.

J.D. Richey served the local Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees, a division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union.

According to court documents, he is accused of embezzling money from the labor organization, but no specific amount of money is included in court documents. The indictment was handed down in July, but it was not unsealed until this week in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Labor-Management Standards, according to the government agency’s website.

An attempt to obtain more information about the case through the Department of Labor was unsuccessful Thursday due to the ongoing shutdown of the federal government.
