Deadline is today to file for District 85 caucus

INDIANAPOLIS – The deadline to file for the House District 85 caucus is 5 p.m. today.

Six local men have filed bids so far to replace Rep. Phyllis Pond, R-New Haven, who died two weeks ago.

The caucus is scheduled for Tuesday at the Allen County Republican Party Headquarters. About 60 precinct committeepersons will make the selection.

The winner of the caucus will serve the remainder of Pond’s term, ending late next year, and earn an edge in the May primary.

Three men announced their intention to run early – Fort Wayne lawyer Casey Cox, Realtor Denny Worman and corporate executive Dave Heine.

In addition, three others have filed with the Indiana Republican Party – Ken Richardson, Mike Cameron and Ken Knoblaugh.

Pond was an elected precinct committeewoman who was eligible to vote in the caucus. Due to her death, her vice-chair will serve as Pond’s proxy and vote.
