Child molester gets 8-year prison term

FORT WAYNE -- A 40-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison Tuesday on a single charge of child molesting.

It was much less time than Daron T. Greene could have faced. Before pleading guilty, he faced nine charges – four child molesting charges, four charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and a charge of dissemination of matter harmful to minors.

Greene, of the 1300 block of Maumee Avenue, pleaded guilty to an amended 10th count of child molesting, admitting to sexually abusing a young girl whom he knew. The nine other counts were dismissed.

Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Greene to 15 years in prison but ordered seven years suspended and served on probation. As a credit-restricted felon, because of the child molesting charge, Greene will serve most of the non-suspended part of his prison sentence.
