Say this much for NFL commish Roger Goodell: At least he gave it the old college try.
As an excerpt from the book "League of Denial" made devastating claims -- among other things, it alleges that the NFL spent decades deliberating trying to quash or discredit any scientific studies that linked concussions to long-term brain damage -- Goodell sent a blast e-mail to 10 million names in its database, extolling the virtues of the Shield's safety programs and outreach to youth football.
I don't know how the 10 million received it. But it rang hollow as a gourd for me, because I just got a look at tonight's TV schedule.
The NFL Network, I see, is airing Browns vs. Bills tonight at 8:25 p.m.
Which means Goodell can send out a million e-mails if he wants, and spew a million words. As long as his league mandates that two teams a week must play two games within four days, any and all claims it makes about player safety will fall on deaf ears here at the Blob.
