Greenpeace: Russia to charge activists Wednesday
The Associated Press
It is not clear whether investigators still plan to charge them with piracy, a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The Russian Coast Guard seized a Greenpeace ship and all 30 people on board following the Sept. 18 protest at an offshore platform in the Arctic owned by Russian state-controlled energy giant Gazprom.
The activists, from 18 countries, are all in custody in the northern city of Murmansk.
Greenpeace spokeswoman Anna Smirnova told The Associated Press on Tuesday that investigators have informed lawyers for some of the activists that the charges will presented on Wednesday and Thursday.
