– An Angola Middle School teacher has used a $10,000 Lilly Endowment grant to increase her knowledge of Spanish and explore Costa Rica.

Shawn Snyder is one of 100 teachers, principals and assistant principals to receive the Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship grant.

Snyder has a degree in marine biology and worked with sea turtles in college. She tells The Herald Republican ( ) she wanted to scuba dive and explore the country while increasing her command of Spanish.

The grants are meant to help revitalize teachers.

Snyder referred to her project as “The Path Not Taken” and says her adventure showed her that she could continue to explore the world she’d embraced as a college student.
