Notre Dame architecture school gets $27 million donation

SOUTH BEND – The University of Notre Dame said it will expand its School of Architecture programs and construct a new building named for a Chicago-area couple donating $27 million toward the project.

The donation is coming from Matthew and Joyce Walsh of Burr Ridge, Ill. Matthew Walsh is a 1968 Notre Dame graduate and co-chairman of Chicago-based Walsh Construction Co.

School of Architecture Dean Michael Lykoudis told the South Bend Tribune (http://bit.ly/15YFPGW ) that its expansion plans include adding graduate programs in historic preservation and real estate development.

Walsh said he wants the School of Architecture to have a state-of-the art facility. The school is now housed in Bond Hall, a 1917 building that originally was the campus library.

A construction timeline hasn’t yet been set.
