Verbatim: Serious injury crash in Defiance

A report received Friday morning:

Sherwood - The Defiance State Highway Patrol Post is investigating a traffic crash that occurred on Platter Creek road, south of Jericho road, located in Defiance County.

The crash occurred around 12:05 am on September 27, 2013.

One victim was critically injured. the driver, Jason Edds, age 34, of Cecil, Ohio, was initially taken to the Defiance Regional Medical Center by Delaware Township EMS and then by Promedica helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Mr. Edds was operating a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Platter Creek road. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the road and struck several trees, before coming to rest in a section of woods. He was extricated from the vehicle by the Jaws of Life.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Defiance County Sheriff's Office, Delaware Township Fire Department and Delaware Township EMS.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
