Carroll girls win on penalty kicks

As they have a habit of doing, Carroll and Homestead went the distance and then some Monday on the soccer field.

This time it was the girls, and it went to penalty kicks before Amber Hoot and Matea Knispel scored to give the Chargers a 3-2 win.

Homestead got goals from Morgan Cole and Hope Martin in the first half to send the Spartans to halftime with a 2-1 lead.

But Knispel, who scored Carroll’s first goal, tied it in the second half with another.

Volleyball

BELLMONT 3, BISHOP LUERS 0: Holly Hankenson blasted 13 kills and Janaya Wilder 10 to lead Bellmont to a 25-18, 25-8, 25-18 win at Luers.

CANTERBURY 3, NORTH SIDE 2: The Cavaliers outlasted North 15-12 in the fifth set.

Jeremy Hoover, Ben Bailey and Chase Ramsey won singles matches for the Braves.

ANGOLA 4, WESTVIEW 1: At Angola, Cameron Hall and Chris Calvelage won three-setters at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to pace the Hornets. Hall won 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and Calvelage prevailed 6-4, 6-7,. 6-1.
