A small plane crashed Tuesday morning in a northern Wabash County soybean field, according to the county sheriff’s department.
The pilot, Rex A. Ott, 62, of Danville, Iowa, told investigators the engine malfunctioned and the propeller came off, the sheriff’s department said. Ott said he was able to glide the 1963 Beechraft to the field northwest of Urbana about 10:30 a.m.
One passenger, Tracy J. Swift, 52, of Washington, Iowa, was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with cuts and a possible broken leg, the department said in a statement.
Another passenger, Timothy G. Swift, 59, also of Washington, was not injured.
The plane went down in the area of County Road 500 North, about a half-mile west of Indiana 13, according to the sheriff’s department.
