Runestad not running in caucus

Local businessman Ric Runestad is not running in the caucus to replace Rep. Phyllis Pond, R-New Haven, in the House District 85 seat.

It was rumored he was seeking the post, but he said Tuesday the information was false.

He conceded he had made some calls about the 2014 Republican primary -- not the caucus -- before Pond announced her resignation.

"I spoke to people beforehand – not precinct committeemen – with regards to the primary. That could mean either I was interested or was finding out who would be good to run for the position."
