Snider runner is finalist for national award

Snider cross country runner Kaitelyn Vachon will be honored as a finalist for a national award from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the U.S. Army at halftime of the North Side-Snider football game Friday at Spuller Stadium.

Former Snider football standout and Hall of Fame member Rod Woodson will present the honor to Vachon, who is one of 10 finalists for the Award for Excellence, which is jointly sponsored by the Hall of Fame and the U.S. Army.

The 10 finalists will attend the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The winner of the Award for Excellence will be announced during the Bowl's Awards ceremony Jan. 3.

"The U.S. Army is strongly committed to America's youth and supports their many achievements," Mark Davis, the deputy assistant to the Secretary of Army for Marketing wrote in a news release. "The nominees for the Award for Excellence possess a unique set of strengths and adherence to a core set of values …"
