Cranston books film after ‘Breaking Bad’


Bryan Cranston will star as blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in a film that is to be his first after wrapping “Breaking Bad.”

A publicist for Cranston confirmed the casting Thursday. The film, “Trumbo,” will be directed by “Meet the Parents” filmmaker Jay Roach from a script by John McNamara.

As a member of the Communist Party, Trumbo was among the Hollywood 10: screenwriters and directors blacklisted in 1947 after refusing to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

Director staying

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will keep its music director through the 2017-18 season.

The orchestra announced Thursday that Krzysztof Urbanski has agreed to extend his contract and will continue to split his time between the ISO and symphonies in Norway and Tokyo.

Urbanski said in a statement the decision to stay felt right and that he’s eager to be part of the orchestra’s future.

Yoakam top artist

Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell have won album of the year and Dwight Yoakam has been named artist of the year at the Americana Honors & Awards.

Harris and Crowell tied with husband-wife duo Shovels & Rope as top winners with two awards apiece Wednesday night at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn. Their collaboration “Old Yellow Moon” won album of the year and they also took duo-group of the year.

Honoring King

Carole King will be honored as the MusiCares person of the year during the 2014 Grammy Awards week.

The Recording Academy announced Thursday that King will be saluted by performers Lady Gaga, the Dixie Chicks, Bette Midler, Steven Tyler, James Taylor and Jason Mraz.

The fundraiser for the academy’s charitable foundation will be Jan. 24.
