When I saw the headline, I assumed there was no way I'd get it on DirecTV. Lo and behold, they've got it covered across the board.
This is seriously cool. I think the last time the Ks were on TV must've been during their magical playoff runs back in '92 and '93.
I've never understood why this isn't done more. Every TinCaps home game is on, albeit only via Comcast. It's is very exciting.
Now the REAL question: Who do Hormann and Schoegler have pictures of that enabled them to pull off a weekend trip to Vegas??

Today, on the ECHL website, the Kalamazoo Wings announced that they will be affiliated with NHL teams Vancouver and St. Louis (also Utica and Chicago of the AHL). Those affiliations go along with Cincinnati's affiliations with NHL teams Florida and Nashville (also San Antonio and Milwaukee of the AHL), as well as Toledo's affiliations with Detroit and Chicago of the NHL (Grand Rapids and Rockford of the AHL), and Evansville's affiliatipn with Columbus of the NHL (Springfield of the AHL).
So now the entire division has lined up with parent teams. Except the Komets, that is.
David Franke, in an interview by Glenn Marini (WANE-TV) on August 29 2012, said "the way to do business in the ECHL is to have an affiliate."
I don't have a problem with being independent. The control of your roster is important at any time, but especially during the playoffs. My only thought is that this will be a good litmus test on putting that theory to work.

Is it really that hard to stay on topic?

Will this be MyTV's own production of the game(their own camera's) or will it just be a stream of the game that the ECHL provides to all fans.

Can't always find a topic to match what you want to share and or discuss...
No big deal...

I think Alan was just fine bringing up the most important question about this team anytime he wants....if we are not affiliated we are not going to have near the talent that the elite teams in this league have. Can an independent team somehow find magic in a bottle and win in the "E", maybe, but it would be the exception not the norm. We all want the K's to be competitive, and without an affiliation it will be more difficult......heart is great, but talent matters. David is really saying that he can go out and find talent that every NHL team has over looked and develop them into a team that can compete. Possible...yes, probable....time will tell. There will be no doubt about David's abilities to be an effective GM after this year (especially if they are independent). Now that 12 games will be on TV we will have all that much more visual evidence to make that judgment......how's that for getting back to the topic!

To my understanding it will be their own production. They aren't just going to voice over the America One feed.

Staying on topic is a HUGE challenge for a few here.
Where is the dead horse emoticon when you need it?
Glad to see these games being broadcast on TV. GO Komets.

Quite frankly the idea of "staying on topic" wasn't something I was concerned with (I guess that was kind of obvious). Introducing a new subject wasn't my intention of confusing you Y2K1.2, or you either A_Real_Fan. Hockey "news" happens all the time and not necessarily just whenever Justin has the time to post it. My post may have been of interest to a few on here who hadn't seen the announcement. If the blog is for discussion, then what's wrong with introducing new tidbits in order to foster discussion and learn opinions?
Thanks JR, and tim g. Your support is appreciated.
By the way, a "dead horse emoticon" may be a good idea. Whose picture should we use to pattern it after? I wonder... now that would be a challenge, wouldn't it?

Heard the Komets have a working agreement with the Predators.

Seems odd to me since Nashville is already affiliated with Cincy....

Off the topic warning
Y2K, if your still reading, I want you to know one of your relatives is a great friend of mine. We probably talk Komet hockey twice a week and I would suggest that he has forgotten more about hockey than we will ever know. He doesn't seem to have any problem with my posts.
Justin, I have a couple of questions and I would appreciate your opinion. If answering either question is uncomfortable because of a future column or thread, I understand.
Maybe J B has answered this already (reading his post above), but as late as it is getting, what are the odds of an affiliation for the Komets? (I'm including any affiliation with a higher level team or even a working agreement). As of Friday the ECHL website listed only Fort Wayne, Colorado, and Las Vegas as "independent" or "tbd".
Secondly, do you think the Komets are done with signing players or do you think they are waiting to see if someone they like gets cut from an AHL camp? I suppose it's obvious that they will be happy to grab hold of someone special who falls into their lap. Still, having a plan and taking advantage of circumstances are two different things.
Thirdly, these "future consideration" trades have been oddly quiet. Is everyone waiting for training camps to be complete to see what becomes available?
Thanks in advance, Alan.

Carefull JR & J B, you are getting way off the topic.

Can I claim attention deficit as my excuse?

Don't be shocked when you see a top center signed to fill the last vet spot. I don't think if you take a look at what the Ks have now you still don't have a number one top line center.

Matt, you've brought up a very interesting point. I went to the roster with your post in mind. I can't argue with your premise, other than some of these guys are pretty new and I don't really know.
A top line center, inserted into this roster, could complete the picture. If there is a weakness, and I'm not saying it is glaring, is that I think the team could use another sniper. Depending on the center and his skills will determine a lot.
Justin hasn't answered my questions so I'm not sure where the K's may be in player signings. There is a vet spot available and I'm not sure the K's can afford or are inclined to use it now.
Your post and the one from JB (indicating a working agreement with Nashville) are pretty interesting. My question to you would be, what kind of source do you have or is this a hunch?
Today is Tuesday, the traditional day for Komet announcements, so maybe some things will become clearer. Maybe Justin is holding off on my questions because he's aware of "news" and doesn't want to spill the beans. I can appreciate that.
Here's hoping everything is well with you Matt and whatever we learn about the team is positive.

Anyone actually think that Nashville will send affiliated players to ECHL teams that are in the same division???
Posted by JR . (656 posts) at 7:46 pm Tuesday
Why would they care? They want the player to develop, they don't care about the ECHL team.

Michael Franke said on Sound Off last thursday that the Komets would have a couple of players under pro contract.
Curious as to who and where those players will come from...
Posted by Mr. X (56 posts) at 9:08 pm Tuesday
I am sure they would care if their contracted players were playing against each other in the same division...
This whole conversation started because Riechard got released from his try out with Nashville and returned to Ft. Wayne. People now assume the Komets are affiliated with them...

Alan, I have spoken with some inside hockey people outside of FTW. I have it on from very good sources that the wheels are turning very much in the direction of my "hunch". With regard to the other players on the team. I have seen Scott Flemming play many time pre injury. I will go on record as saying if he comes back and is in shape and 100% healthy, he will be the best new player on the Ks this season. If I was a drinking man after a few adult beverages I might say he could be in the top three best players on the team excluding goaltenders.

Thanks, matt. The confidence level of your post is very encouraging and I'm pretty glad to read it. If it happens I think this just might be a terrific roster.
I am also excited about the fact that you have seen Flemming play and your high opinion of him. I have posted before that, I too, think his pedigree is one that may just make him a "steal" as he comes on board.
Other tidbits: yesterday a person in the know told me it was not the Komets, but Coliseum mgmt. that won't allow the place to be open to the public for camp. Such a shame as so many teams advertise their camps to be free and open to the public.
Anyway, thanks again matt, for your message back answering my questions.

Alan, another guy I saw in the QMHL that played great is Yanni Gourde. I have seen him play this summer and also in the AHL last year. I am told he will be sent down from the AHL Comets if he does not stay to K-Z00. This guy is small but has eyes on the back of his head and shoots like a laser beam. Keep your eyes open for him to get some big points.
