Coats, Berry to speak at GOP Bean Dinner

U.S. Sen. Dan Coats will make a return appearance as the keynote speaker at this year’s Allen County Republican Party Bean Dinner.

Coats also was the keynote speaker at the 2009 Bean Dinner.

Tim Berry, chairman of the Indiana GOP, also will appear at this year’s fundraising dinner, which will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Diamond Room of Ceruiti’s Summit Park, 6601 Innovation Blvd.

Coats, R-Ind., was elected to the Senate in 2010 and is a member of the Appropriations, Intelligence, Commerce and Joint Economic committees. He was a senator from 1989 through 1998, and a member of the House for most of the 1980s after working for a Fort Wayne insurance company and on the staff of then-Sen. Dan Quayle. Coats also is a former U.S. ambassador to Germany.

Fort Wayne native Berry has been state GOP chairman since July. He has been state auditor, state treasurer and Allen County treasurer.

Dinner admission is $60 a person. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and a cash bar will be available. Reservations are due Oct. 8.

A VIP reception will be from 5:30 to 6:30 in the Summit Room. Admission is $120 a person and includes dinner.

Bean Dinner speakers in recent years have included Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
