Komets add 3 to roster

The Komets’ roster for the upcoming season grew to 26 players with the additions of Darick Ste. Marie, Keegan Flaherty and Max Strang on Tuesday.

Ste. Marie, 23, is a forward who played in 27 games last season with Orlando and Evansville of the ECHL, totaling two goals and six points. He also helped the Akwesasne Warriors to the 2011 championship of the Single A-level Federal Hockey League, with two goals and five points in eight playoff games.

Flaherty, 23, is coming off a four-year career at Minnesota Duluth – he won the 2011 NCAA championship – scoring 10 goals and 29 points in 148 games as a forward. He was on the Western Collegiate Hockey Association’s All-Academic team for three years.

Strang, a 23-year-old goaltender, is coming off five seasons with Mercyhurst College. He had a 2.59 goals-against average in 27 games last season. He also helped Sioux Falls to the United States Hockey League’s junior championship in 2007.

The Komets’ first home preseason game will be Oct. 12 at Memorial Coliseum against Wheeling. The regular season opens Oct. 19 at the Coliseum versus the Toledo Walleye.
