Orland tanker crash disrupts Toll Road

The Indiana Toll Road was closed for about 20 minutes Thursday night after a tanker truck crashed near Orland, officials said.

According to the Orland Volunteer Fire Department, the tanker was westbound about 6 p.m. when it crossed the median and two lanes of oncoming traffic at the 132 mile marker before coming to rest in a wooded area. Firefighters extricated the driver, who was flown by Samaritan helicopter to a Fort Wayne hospital.

The extent of the driver’s injuries was uncertain, but Indiana State Police said his condition had stabilized at the hospital. His name was not released.

It was unclear why the truck left the highway, officials said.

All lanes of the Toll Road were shut down for about 20 minutes. The truck was carrying ink oil, but none of it was lost in the crash, officials said.
