Mastodon women lose in volleyball

IPFW freshman Jadyn' Pegues had a career-high 21 kills but the Mastodons were swept by Illinois State 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 Saturday.

Pegues tied the single-match three-set record by a freshman, joining Amber Bourne against St. Joseph's on Oct. 1, 1994, and IPFW Hall of Famer Fabiana Souza against Evansville on Oct.12, 2002 with 21 kills in a three-set match.

Emily Spencer added eight kills, while Madison Spence had 36 assists. Pegues, Winkes, and Este Stoffel each had a service ace, while Spence led the team with nine digs, while Spencer and Jen Milligan each had eight. Sarah Heckman led the team with two blocks.

The Mastodons return to action on Tuesday when they travels to Ypsilanti, Mich., to face Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m.
