Purdue lands basketball commit from Ohio

Purdue nabbed one of its top targets Sunday when 2014 forward Vince Edwards of Middletown (Ohio) High School gave his pledge to the Boilermakers.

Edwards, a 6-foot-6 small forward, is a top-150 prospect nationally and was told by coach Matt Painter that he could fit into the Purdue system like former forward Robbie Hummel did, as a stretch player whose versatility creates mismatches across the court.

The prospect had Michigan high on his list, as well, and regarded as a top-three player in Ohio.

"I look at Purdue as a great school that's been there for me since, like, the end my freshman year," Edwards told The Journal Gazette during an interview in May at the Spiece Run 'N' Slam in Fort Wayne. You can read more from that conversation and see a video interview with the swingman here.

This was a big recruiting win for Painter and his staff. The Boilermakers now have two commits for the class, including fellow Ohio native Dakota Mathias, a fringe top-100 prospect and shooting guard at Elida.
