  • Quick fix to offense urgent for Stanford
The offense has struggled enough through the first four games this season that even Stanford’s stoic coach vented in public.
  • Big Ten West stands tall
One of the prevailing notions heading into the season was that the Big Ten East Division could end up being a lot better than the West. It didn’t look that way last weekend.
  • Michigan admits error with QB
Michigan announced changes to its injury protocol Tuesday, admitting it made a mistake in handling quarterback Shane Morris after a suspected concussion because of a “serious lack of communication” and “confusion” among the coaching staff.

College football preview: Elmhurst at Trine

When: 1 p.m. Saturday

Where: Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium, Angola

Radio: 88.3 FM

2013 records: Trine 1-0, Elmhurst 0-0

Series: Elmhurst leads 1-0

Scouting report: The book on Trine was the book of truth in Week 1. With a veteran defense back and an offense missing some major pieces, the defense was expected to do the heavy lifting early, and that’s what happened at Manchester in the opener. The Thunder shut down a loaded Spartans team 19-3, surrendering just 47 rushing yards and 269 total. On offense, Austin Shoemaker was the spark, rushing for 87 yards and catching six passes for 36 yards. Quarterback Anthony Yoder chipped in with a 14-of-21, 144-yard, one-touchdown night. Elmhurst opens its season against a team it beat 31-13 in Elmhurst, Ill., a year ago.
