2 men try to rob pizza deliveryman

A Pizza Hut deliveryman received a 3-inch gash to the top of his head Monday night during an encounter with two would-be muggers at a south-side apartment complex, according to a Fort Wayne police report.

About 9 p.m., an order was placed using a pay phone at the Marathon gas station at 3411 Lower Huntington Road, and the caller asked that the order be delivered to an apartment in the Hickory Creek complex, less than a mile from the gas station, the report stated.

The deliveryman took the food to the apartment, and when no one answered the door, he left the building. On his way to his vehicle, two men approached him from behind, and one struck his head with a hard object, possibly a handgun, the report said.

The men tried to tackle the deliveryman, but he fought back and put one of the men in a headlock while the other man kicked him.

The attackers eventually ran south, leaving the food, the report stated.

They were both described as 5-foot-6, 140 pounds and black. They were wearing black hooded sweatshirts and dark pants.
