Eccentric dinner menu in Angola

Benjamin Lamson says he has traveled – and worked – throughout the country, sampling foods and wines.

And it's those experiences, he says, that inspired the new dinner service at Ambrosia Bella in Angola.

The co-owner and chef of the coffee and sandwich shop acquired a liquor license this spring, allowing him to add a selection of craft beer and fine wines and the night hours he had hoped to since he opened in 2010.

"It's a really unique menu for the area," he says.

Highlights include a small plate that features a fried pig ear with fried kale, banana peppers and a fried egg ($8) and the kangaroo "Denver Leg," which is served with fingerling potatoes, asparagus salad and a blueberry-white balsamic sauce ($24).

Lamson says the restaurant also serves a "really awesome meatloaf" that has caramelized onions, roasted garlic and smoked gouda with a ghost chili choron sauce.

Dinner hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Ambrosia Bella, 2011 N. Wayne St. in Angola, is open for pastries and lunch 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
