Small explosion at Hoosier Metals

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the 2200 block of West Coliseum Tuesday afternoon, after receiving a call of an explosion with black smoke coming from the Hoosier Metal facility. When crews arrived, they found a trailer on fire in the rear of the lot.

Employees said they were compressing scrap autos in the trailer when there was a small explosion causing other materials in the trailer to catch on fire. The employees worked to remove the material with a crane, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.
