Caucuse scheduled for Pond's seat

Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Tim Berry has officially scheduled a caucus of eligible precinct committee members in House District 85 to fill the remainder of retiring Rep. Phyllis Pond’s term.

Pond’s resignation is effective Oct. 15. Her term runs through late 2014.

The caucus will be 6 p.m. Oct. 8 at Allen County Republican Party Headquarters, 135 W. Main St.

Interested candidates must file their declaration of candidacy with the Indiana Republican Party secretary no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 4.

The winner of the caucus will serve the remainder of the term – and likely have an advantage in the 2014 primary election for a new two-year term.
