I gave some Green Envy tomato plants to my co-workers early in the season and last week I was asked, "How do you know when they are ripe?" My answer was I don't know.
Several of my tomato plants picked up a disease from the soil they were growing in so I assumed that the Green Envy plant I had was gone. I didn't have any experience from a Green Envy plant in my garden to go by.
The other day while watering the tomato plants that did survive this summer, I noticed that some green tomatoes were rotting. It was then that I realized that I had a Green Envy plant after all.
I have now learned that Green Envy tomatoes hint at turning yellow when ripe. My co-worker also noticed that they start to split.
