NBC News anchor Brian Williams is returning from the disabled list.

The network said Thursday he’ll be back to work at “Nightly News” tonight. He’s been out since undergoing knee replacement surgery Aug. 6.

NBC has the top-rated evening news program, but ABC’s “World News” with Diane Sawyer has been creeping closer. Lester Holt has been filling in for Williams since his surgery.

Williams said in an interview with NBC medical reporter Nancy Snyderman he’s been highly motivated to end 30 years of knee pain. He thanked viewers, particularly those who have had a similar surgery, for their good wishes.

Fans disappointed

Fans are upset after Dave Chappelle stopped his headlining set at a Connecticut comedy show because of hecklers and left the stage after telling only a few jokes.

Chappelle was the closing act Thursday night at the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford.

Fans say he stopped his routine after only a few minutes. He sat on a stool making comments about the situation and responding to hecklers until the end of what apparently was his contractually mandated time onstage.

Some fans say the whole thing was awkward, and some say they should get refunds.

Cheap actor

It was Jon Voight’s portrayal of male prostitute Joe Buck in the 1969 film “Midnight Cowboy” that put him on the path to becoming an acting legend. Now he says he was paid a pittance for the part.

Voight says that he wanted the role so badly he told his agent, “I said, ‘Tell them I’ll do this part for nothing.’ ” The actor says to his surprise, “they took me at my word and they gave me minimum for ‘Midnight Cowboy.’ ”
