Autopsy set for relative discovered inside home

A family’s discovery of a dead relative Friday in a northeast Fort Wayne home has prompted an investigation.

Officer Michael Joyner said the family became concerned when they could not reach their relative, a woman. So family members used a key to enter the house and found the woman dead, Joyner said.

Police officers were sent to the home, 5518 Myanna Lane, shortly after 1 p.m. Joyner said nothing immediately indicated how the woman died.

Nor could he say whether investigators suspected foul play. An autopsy is planned today.

“We are presently in death investigation mode,” Joyner said, adding that the Allen County prosecutor and coroner were assisting.

Police did not identify the deceased woman or her age. Joyner said she was the only person who lived in the home near St. Joe Center and Maplecrest roads.

The woman’s dog was found in the home, and animal control officers took it into their custody.
