One of 2 charged in Kroger counterfeit scheme

Two Fort Wayne men are accused of working together to spend $1,000 in counterfeit bills at Kroger grocery stores.

Justin Dixon, 18, was charged Friday with corrupt business influence and three counts of forgery.

The second man has not yet been charged.

From Aug. 18 to 24, the two men passed 10 fake $100 bills at Kroger stores in the area, court papers stated.

With the counterfeit money, they purchased $166.52 in merchandise and received $935.85 in change from cashiers, court papers said.

On Aug. 26, Dixon’s accomplice tried unsuccessfully to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill, and an off-duty police officer working for Kroger confirmed it was a fake, court papers said.

Investigators linked the men to the other fake bills by reviewing store surveillance videos, court papers stated.

Dixon, of the 900 block of East Washington Boulevard, has a warrant for his arrest.
