Brendan Connolly had very nice stats including +/- for Greenville the last three seasons.
Makes me wonder if J.M. tried to pull the same demands on Alaska that he did here. I hope he finds success in Greenville and/or finds what he's looking for.

Looks like we will get to see Rizk a couple times during the regular season now. As long as he isn't traded again or (even more likely) called up to the AHL.

You have to wonder considering the difference in the stats. On the surface it looks like Alaska got the better of the trade !

Rizk is 27 years old with a grand total of 5 games played in the AHL... He is no "shoe in" to be called up this season.
Purely speculation here; but I would hazard a guess and say that Rizk knows/feels that this season is his last chance to realize his dream and make it to a higher level. I am assuming he feels that playing in Alaska would be more of a dead end location and that he would like to play where he will get more exposure to scouts or in a more likely area to get a call up from.
I think its all about exposure for Rizk this season... 1. Location, location, location. 2. Used heavily in important game situations. 3. Money/respect
Just spit balling here...

JR, who knows?
You bring up some very valid points.
I have a feeling that you, as I, am sorry to see him go. Still, if what I've heard about some of the requests(demands)or guarantees are true, I don't think there was any alternative but to find other places for him to land.
The unfortunate thing is that Hughes will be measured solely against the expectations of what Rizk may have brought. They are two different people with two different skill sets.

True; but that has always been the nature of 1 for 1 trades, fair or unfair...

@hitsomebody, I agree, there's trades made for all reasons to fill a role needed where another role is over occupied. On the smart arse side, did those washers and dryers live up their expectations for that trade?

This is going to be off topic but I wanted my homework to be posted in a more active blog post. With all the affiliation / independent chatter going on the last couple weeks, I kept wondering the same question. When was the last time an independent won the ECHL Kelly Cup finals? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it has been 10 seasons since the last independent Kelly Cup champion.
2012 Florida--Carolina, Tampa Bay
2011 Alaska--St. Louis
2010 Cincinnati--Nashville, Florida
2009 South Carolina--Boston
2008 Cincinnati--Nashville, Florida
2006 Alaska--St. Louis
2003 Atlantic City Boardwalk--Independent
Although I am a fan of the Komets taking the affiliation route, I am looking forward to the K's breaking the 10 year independent champion drought.

Its there, click on "tailing the komets". I noticed that too and immediately thought I was being blocked for too many humbling komments.

Rizk making demands? Like not being stuck on the 3rd line with Schlubby Balboa? Actually playing with guys that are able to skate with him?
JM is such a bad guy.
Just another beloved Komet tossed under the bus after departing Fort Wayne. But after what was done to Chaulk I guess nothing should come as a shock.
