Pot crop found in basement, officials say

Formal charges were filed Tuesday in connection with a pot-growing operation in the basement of a Wolf Lake home, according to a statement issued by the Noble County prosecutor.

Eldon R. Leitch, 58, and Darla J. Perkins, 48, each of Wolf Lake, have each been charged with dealing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of marijuana (more than 30 grams), possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and maintaining a common nuisance, Prosecutor Steven T. Clouse said.

He said a search of a home on South Wolf Lake Street on Friday followed an investigation by the Indiana Multi Agency Group Enforcement Drug Task Force that lasted nearly two months. The house involved is a few blocks from Wolf Lake Elementary School.

The Noble County Sheriff’s Special Operations Group assisted in serving the search warrant, and according to court documents filed Tuesday, officers discovered 47 marijuana plants growing in the basement of the house. Marijuana seeds and other related items were also found, Tuesday’s statement said.

Leitch and Perkins, who had been held since Friday, are scheduled for an initial appearance today in Noble Circuit Court.
