Sycamore Hills takes spotlight

Fort Wayne this week plays host to the largest Indiana golf event of the year, with the city teed up to catch some major attention.

Sycamore Hills Golf Club is hosting the first of the Web.com Tour Finals PGA events. The Hotel Fitness Championship has a purse of $1 million and is estimated to have an economic impact of $4 million to $5 million.

The tournament is one of four qualifying events that will help determine which golfers get their 2014 PGA Tour cards.

The first round begins Thursday, following a pro-am event on Wednesday. Final-round play is Sunday.

Sycamore Hills will serve as an attractive backdrop for the event, which will be broadcast on the Golf Channel. The course was designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1989. Previous tournaments have included the Indiana State Amateur, Junior PGA Championship and USGA Open and Amateur qualifiers.
