  • Postgame reaction, video from Komets 3-2 victory
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- I'm not going to say these have been the best three games I've seen the Komets play to start a season -- and I've covered 18 seasons -- but this has to be the most exciting season-opening set I've seen.
  • Komets beat Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In what had become a heated game, Shawn Szydlowski capped a 3-2 overtime victory for the Komets on Friday by stealing the puck in the Kalamazoo Wings zone and then sending a wrist shot past the goal with 49 seconds remaining.
  • Penalty shot foiled, K's tied at 2
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Komets and Kalamazoo Wings are tied at 2 after two periods at Wings Stadium.

Chuck Adamson played 176 consecutive games. His number is being retired.

The Komets will retire the numbers of former goaltenders Chuck Adamson (1) and Nick Boucher (33) in a ceremony Oct. 26, the club announced today.

Fort Wayne plays Cincinnati in a 7:30 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum that night, the Komets said in a statement.

The two become the 14th and 15th numbers retired by the Komets, and along with Robbie Irons are the only goaltenders on the list.

"The Komet Hockey Club has won a total of nine playoff championships in its history," Komet general manager David Franke said in a statement. "Chuck Adamson and Nick Boucher account for six of those nine championships!

What tremendous careers they have had and they both reside in Fort Wayne."

Adamson won two International Hockey League Turner Cups with the Komets in 1963 and 1965. He was the league's Outstanding Goaltender of the Year in 1964-65.

He appeared in 176 consecutive games for the club between November 1962 and January 1965.

Boucher led the Komets to three straight Turner Cups in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and a CHL championship in 2012.
