TinCaps slip again against Bowling Green

Fort Wayne was on a four-game winning streak entering its series against Bowling Green on Saturday.

The TinCaps haven't had any success since.

Fort Wayne (68-63, 25-37 second half) dropped its second straight matchup against the Hot Rods (77-54, 39-24) 2-1 in an afternoon game Sunday. The loss dropped the TinCaps to 4-10 against Bowling Green this season.

Fort Wayne starter Max Fried (6-6) went six innings and gave up five hits and both of Bowling Green's runs while striking out four.

Reliever Ruben Mejia kept the Hot Rods hitless in two innings of relief, but the TinCaps couldn't get their offense going at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Hot Rods starter Kevin Brandt (2-0) spaced six hits over a seven-inning outing and gave up one run. He struck out six.

Andrew Hanse got the hold, and Marcus Jensen the save, for Bowling Green. The TinCaps couldn't manage any extra-base hits off the trio, and the Hot Rods didn't give them many chances either. Bowling Green walked just one batter in nine innings and allowed seven total runners to reach base.

Center fielder Alberth Martinez was the only batter with more than one hit, went 2 for 4 and scored Fort Wayne's only run Sunday.

He scored on a sacrifice fly from first baseman Diego Goris in the top of the sixth. It was Goris' 51st RBI of the year.

The TinCaps had scored at least four runs in the seven games before they headed to Bowling Green, and Fort Wayne won six of those contests. The offense has stalled in this series, with one run in the last 18 innings.

The TinCaps and Hot wrap up the series with an 11:35 a.m. game Monday.
