TinCaps lose at Bowling Green

After sweeping three home games against South Bend, the TinCaps couldn’t carry their success on the road, committing four errors and falling 7-0 at Bowling Green in the first of a three-game series.

The loss snapped Fort Wayne’s four-game winning streak.

Fort Wayne(25-36; 68-62 overall) was in trouble from the beginning. Mallex Smith walked drew a first-inning walked but was picked off. Smith leads the Midwest League with 61 steals.

The Hot Rods (38-24; 76-54 overall) scored a first run in the second after a fielding error by Smith and after a home run in the fourth from Justin O’Connor, the TinCaps were unable to respond.

Another fielding error in the fifth by Gabriel Quintana allowed for two more Hot Rod runs, and two more errors in the sixth from Reynaldo Bruguera (fielding) and Rodney Daal (throwing) accounted for two more scores.

Starter Zach Eflin (7-6) went five innings and gave up five runs on seven hits, including O’Connor’s home run.

The TinCaps continue the series at Bowling Green at 3:05 p.m. today.
