MONTICELLO, Ind. – A man has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for a fatal shooting in a small northern Indiana city during a confrontation about poor-quality methamphetamine.
A White County judge ordered the sentence Thursday for Ray Chamorro, 22, of Schererville. Chamorro was convicted last month on murder charges for the October shooting death of Tye Rentfrow, 29, in Monticello.
Authorities said a person Chamorro was with confronted Rentfrow about meth he had bought from Rentfrow’s friend. Chamorro was convicted of shooting Rentfrow, while four others were charged with felony counts of assisting a criminal.
The Journal & Courier reported (http://on.jconline.com/16ULQWt ) Chamorro’s attorney said he took his gun with him that day because he believed he needed it for protection.
