Statement as distributed Thursday by the 122nd Fighter Wing:
Fort Wayne IAP, IN – The 122nd Fighter Wing enlisted its 122nd new member for 2013. The Fighter Wing currently boasts 102.9 percent strength with manning just fewer than one thousand.
John Roenneburg a graduate of New Haven High School, New Haven, Ind. raised his right hand today to become the newest member of the 122nd. Roenneburg was introduced to the idea of “joining up” when spoken to by Col. David Augustine, Commander, 122nd Fighter Wing, at a Fort Wayne Community event where the two were in attendance.
Roenneburg has been assigned as a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance, A-10, technician, also known as a Crew Chief, until he can use the GI Bill and the National Guard Supplemental Grant to attend college, graduate and realize his dream of becoming a fighter pilot. As the unit works to get him to basic and technical training school he will participate in the unit’s student flight program.
At the beginning of this past year, Augustine challenged the base to produce 122 new members for the 122nd in 2013. Between recruiting new members and reenlisting members currently serving, the unit has not only met this challenge but is set to clearly exceed expectations. “An important metric to measure the strength of an organization is to evaluate the quality and quantity of personnel it can recruit and retain, by that standard the 122nd Fighter Wing is in very good shape,” said Master Sgt. Kal Slater, 122nd Fighter Wing, Recruiting Office Supervisor.
