Vigil held for crash victims

– Dozens of relatives and friends gathered for a vigil honoring seven family members killed in highway construction zone crash in northwestern Indiana.

Mourners lit candles as darkness fell Monday evening and placed them around a fountain at the Merrillville restaurant where crash victim Lindsey Williams worked.

Williams, 27, and her 5- and 3-year-old daughters died in the crash last week on Interstate 65 about 30 miles south of Gary when a semi slammed into their stopped SUV. Williams’ sister, two young nieces and an uncle also died.

The Times of Munster reported that restaurant owner Sharyl Gutierrez described Williams as a beautiful person who worked hard to get a license to become a bus driver for the Merrillville schools.

The Post-Tribune reported state police continue to investigate.
