A 29-year-old mother accused of biting her 3-year-old daughter faces a felony count in Steuben County.

Carolyn Bowdish of Fremont has been charged with battery resulting in bodily injury.

In June, a Indiana State Police detective called Child Protective Services after seeing what looked like a bite mark on the outside of the girl’s upper thigh, according to court papers.

When asked how she received the mark, the girl told the detective, “Mommy bit me and made me cry,” according to court documents.

Bowdish, who is a nurse, told police she bit the girl to punish her for biting her, court records stated.

Bowdish made her initial appearance in court Monday. She has posted a $5,000 bond to be released from custody.
