Jeep goes off road; driver dies at scene

The driver of a Jeep was killed in a crash Tuesday evening south of Fort Wayne after he was ejected and pinned under the vehicle, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.

About 5:30 p.m., the driver and a passenger were headed north on Thiele Road, and after turning east onto Hamilton Road, the driver lost control of the Jeep, sheriff’s department spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said.

The driver was thrown from the vehicle, which rolled on top of him. He died at the scene, Tinkel said. His name was not released.

The passenger, a man, was taken to a hospital in good condition. It was not clear if the men were wearing seat belts.

Tinkel said that Thiele is a paved road and Hamilton is a gravel road. The intersection is south of Interstate 469.
