ARCH Inc., Fort Wayne’s organization for historic preservation, has digitized the Central Downtown Heritage Trail, the group announced Tuesday.
With a Historic Preservation Education grant through the Indiana Humanities Council, ARCH was able to develop and add Web pages for each of the 19 stops along the Central Trail to ARCH’s website, www.archfw.org.
Staff updated the history of each of the 19 stops along the trail and the Web pages now include historic photos and the “On the Heritage Trail” series of audio recordings by Tom Castaldi, Allen County historian.
QR codes are being placed on each of the 19 markers along the trail and will be linked to the ARCH website. Residents and visitors exploring the trail will be able to use their smartphone to scan the QR codes, which will take them to a designated Web page for each stop.
ARCH is working on digitizing the remaining three trails: West Central Trail, Kekionga Trail, and South Central Trail.
