Komets get rights to Celina goaltender

The Komets said today they have acquired the rights to goaltender Cody Reichard of the Florida Everblades in exchange for future considerations.

Reichard, 26, of Celina, Ohio, appeared in 27 games with Stockton in the ECHL last year and seven games with Houston in the American Hockey League, the club said in a statement. At Stockton, he was 13-8-5, with a 2.64 goals-against average. At Houston, he was 3-1-1, with a 2.41 goals-against average.

Reichard played college hockey at Miami (Ohio), leading the country with a 1.87 goals-against average in 2009-10 and being named the NCAA Player of the Year.

The acquisition puts the Komets' preseason roster at 24, including 13 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.

"Acquiring the rights to Cody really solidifies our goaltending along with John Muse," general manager David Franke said in a statement. "Cody is playing a lot closer to home, so he should be very excited to play in front of family and friends."

Head coach Gary Graham said: "Cody is a huge addition to this team for not only what he will bring to us on the ice but also how he carries himself off the ice. His work with youth hockey players and his involvement with charities in the past exhibit the type of character person he is. He is a welcomed addition to our team and I look forward to working with him."
