Ohio trooper injured in 2-car crash

A two-car crash on Ohio 576 at County Road R in Williams County injured an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper, according to the Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Sunday.

A 2004 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Nathan Rios, 25, of Angola, was traveling west on County Road R. A 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Trooper Gale Horn, 43, of the Defiance post, was traveling south on Ohio 576.

The Rios car went through the stop sign at County Road R and struck the patrol car on the left rear corner, the report said. After the crash, Rios car continued off the south side of the County Road R, struck a ditc , rolled over and came to rest on its top.

Rios and his passenger, Christopher D. Salaiz, 24, of Angola, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Horn was taken to Bryan Hospital for minor injuries and later released.

Both cars had heavy damage. Seat belts were worm by all.

Troopers cited Rios for operating a vehicle impaired and failure to stop at a stop sign.
