TinCaps get late win over Loons

The TinCaps held on for a 4-3 road win in 10 innings against Great Lakes on Saturday to avoid extending their losing streak to five games.

Tied at 2, the TinCaps scored twice in the top of the 10th, and the Loons scored a run in the bottom of the 10th but could get no closer.

Fort Wayne (20-34, 63-60 overall) are 9-2 record this season against the Loons (31-23, 58-66).

The Loons opened scoring in the third with second baseman Kevin Taylor running home off an Aaron Miller single.

Mallex Smith and Alberth Martinez capitalized in the sixth on a throwing error by Taylor, to take the lead. The lead would not last long, however. A pitching change would cost the TinCaps a run as the Loons leveled the score on a home run by Jeremy Rathjen on Matthew Chabot’s second pitch of the game.

A combination of singles allowed scoring opportunities for Smith and Reynaldo Bruguera in the 10th to secure the win for the TinCaps.
